I was really hesitant at first. I am more of a beach kinda guy myself, but my wife was really interested in seeing a different side of England so she settled on Somerset. She was dead-on-the-money.
First off, we always wanted to take a trip to some place that wasn’t covered floor-to-ceiling with tourists, and that proved to be the case of rural retreats in Somerset. We found a gem among the several self catering cottages in Somerset that are available – and trust me, there are a ton of great Somerset holiday homes.
Anyway, we basically spent most of the time exploring and lounging. We visited some of the vast Cave networks and had a great time at a few of the bars but, in reality, the best part was all of the nothingness we did.
It was amazing to spend just a few hours thinking – i have nothing to do and I love it. From sharing a glass of wine with no one in earshot, to sleeping late every day, it was everything we could have imagined and more. This was perfect for anyone looking for luxurious breaks in the West Country.
I don’t know when we will get a chance to do this again but it was absolutely fantastic and I would recommend it to everyone – even beach-goers like myself. Just don’t plan anything other than your lodging and your travel – trust me, you will love to relish in the serenity of a truly rural escape with just yourself and your loved ones.
PS: I recommend that you wait a little later in the year when the weather will be better.
